When it comes to diversity - Cadwell has it all. From wide sweeping fast corners to tight complex sequences. Very much built on the side of a hill descending into a shallow valley a single lap of the full circuit will take the driver through a variety of elevation changes the most challenging of which is the blind crest at the mountain. Hall bends feels like an alpine section with trees pushing in from both sides while the other side of the circuit is wide open. In theory this should be one of the best circuits in the country and if you're a biker then it may well be - but for cars the track is a little on the narrow side for comfort, some drivers dislike it for this fact along with the lack of runoff area around hairpin and barn. Personally I would say it is one of the most fun and challenging tracks you are likely to find in the UK
The circuit facilities are not particularly well developed with just a portacabin for the offices and steel frame barn for the scrutineering bay. The assembly area is a bit on the small size and the steep slope down to the track at the top of the mountain is perhaps more of a challenge than the track itself - especially if you are being towed back to the paddock!
There is a marked difference in the quality of the surface in places - the east section is on private land and does not see as much use, it is also more sheltered but also tends to stay damp unless it has been dry for a few days. The west section is exposed and catches the elements resulting in the occasional break-up of the tarmac. Without any gravel traps the run off areas are all grass which doesn't aid the situation either. The worst section is the tight hairpin the closes the west section loop when the east section is not in use - the best description for it is lethal with a sudden and poorly finished drop in elevation that will upset even the most stable of cars.
While it might be basic for competitors the spectators get a pleasant experience with a choice of grandstands (no covers unfortunately) to choose from the favourite sited above the mountain.
